Throughout the Netherlands, thousands of Mew Gulls ringed with white four-character-rings with the letter E as first character. These rings are used mainly for wintering birds. All these birds have rings with four characters of which at least one is a digit. The majority are ringed during cold spells in 2010. Dutch breeding birds are ringed with rings with four letters. The letters G, I, O and Q are not used.
