In 2018 VRS De Haar started in Zoo Artis and Vogelpark Avifauna in the Netherlands with a RAS-project for survival research for Black-crowned Night Heron. Both adults and nestlings are ringed with a white colour ring with two black letters. The used letters are: A, C, E, H, J, L, N, P, S, T, V, X, Y, Z.
